Reiki Healing

Self-healing is the most important healing to do. We learn this in Reiki I

What is Reiki?

There are many forms of energy healing. Here I am going to speak to the version known as Reiki which I first began studying in the December of 1991. It was a beautiful introduction to the healing arts, and I did not complete my Masters until August 1998.

Reiki (ray-kee) is actually the Japanese word for Universal Life Force Energy. When you break the word down, you have Rei and Kei. Rei is universal, transcendental spirit, mysterious power, essence. Kei is described as the vital life force energy and is very similar to the ‘Chi’ of Chinese Medicine or ‘The Light’ to Christians.

Reiki is an ancient rediscovered natural healing technique involving the placement of hands onto or above the body, in order to channel energy. Reiki is a technique for stress reduction and relaxation that allows everyone to tap into an unlimited supply of ‘life force energy’  to improve health and enhance the quality of life. It can be defined as ‘spiritually guided life force energy’ .

Reiki  doesn’t take years of practice or require copious amounts of intellectual study to learn, rather, it is passed on through a series of attunements from the Teacher to the Student. As soon as this happens, you have, and can do, Reiki. The Teacher (often called the Master) fine tunes the individuals own abilities to channel universal life force energy, much the same as tuning a radio from am to fm. This process opens the crown, heart and palm chakras to receive, and to channel the Reiki frequency.

The Reiki energy can be perceived as heat or sensation that comes from the channels hands. It is gentle and I believe that it stimulates the body’s own innate wisdom to cure itself, whether that be on the physical, or some other level. This is difficult for some people to get their heads around, and even the medicos have looked into it. You can check out an article from Medical News Today right here.

Everybody has the ability to heal, in fact we do it unconsciously on a regular basis. For example, when a young child falls over and hurts their knee, we rub the spot, kiss them and they fell better and go back to playing again. What really happens here is that an additional amount of energy is made available to the child through love, and so he accepts it, and uses it for his healing.

What makes Reiki special is the attunement process. The attunement process is an ancient one that involves symbols to fine-tune the physical and subtle bodies of the student. The attunements represent an initiation, a sacred ceremony that creates contact with the divine.

When we connect with the Divine Spirit or Source, there is no error, and the outcome is an ability to function on a higher vibratory frequency. This enables us to channel a greater quantity of Universal Life Force energy.

Reiki is not part of any religion, rather it is an act of natural healing and is available to any who seek it.

In his book ‘Spiritual Healing: Energy Medicine for Today’, Jack Angelo makes the following statement; “The important thing is for a healer to say ‘yes’ to being an instrument for healing. This means having and developing a love for all that exists, and a strong desire to be of service. The healer becomes a channel to experience and to gain knowledge and it is only through working with patients that he will discover his part in the healing process.”

Learning Reiki is a good starting point for experiencing and working with healing energy. It is a stand alone therapy, and complements other healing methods and spiritual practices.  Reiki can be used for self-healing, for working on others in person, via distance, as well as on animals, and even the planet itself.
